We offer you a review of the most interesting, in our opinion, news about amaranth for October 2018. They allow you to make sure once again that the plant is a valuable, natural medicinal product and can be used in various industries.
In Ukraine, began the production of grass granules from amaranth
During September and October, the harvesting campaign continued in Ukraine – farmers were harvesting amaranth crops. In addition to the traditional products of processing of this plant, in 2018, grass granules were made from the vegetative mass of the culture in Ukraine.
According to the head of the Association of Amaranth and Amaranth Producers, Alexander Duda, as of the end of October 2018, the bulk of the Ukrainian farms completed amaranth harvesting.
According to him, the main product today is seeds, from which further produce:
- cereal and bread crumbs;
- infant formula.
In addition, from the seeds of amaranth produce bait for fish and animal feed, including domestic.
According to Oleksandr Duda, three Ukrainian enterprises started producing grass pellets from amaranth vegetative mass at once. These enterprises are located in different areas of the country:
As the specialist predicts, next year the number of such enterprises will increase significantly. He notes that the profitability of production and the nutritional value of amaranth granules are much higher than those of alfalfa granules. But the most important is that they are in demand not only in the domestic, but also in the external market. As of October 2018, the approximate wholesale cost of sales – 5 hryvnia per kilogram of finished products.
Green amaranth, as a cure for diabetes
It is reported that researchers at Al Shifa Pharmacy (India) in the course of laboratory studies have found that green amaranth (also known as the Amaranthus hybrid) can be used as a natural medicine for the treatment of diabetes mellitus in the future.
It is noteworthy that green amaranth was previously used to get rid of this disease, but only as a folk remedy in the southern regions of the country.
In particular, various specialized publications, medical journals indicate that Indian scientists investigated the antidiabetic and antioxidant potential of green amaranth leaf extract in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice.
In the course of research, they orally fed the mice with green amaranth leaves extract. Doses – 200 milligrams and 400 milligrams per kilogram for two weeks.
Scientists constantly monitored the level of glucose in the blood of experimental mice. In particular, measurements were carried out:
- 15 day after administration of green amaranth extract to the diet of mice.
Such experiments allowed us to determine the true effect of the green extract of amaranth leaves:
- on transaminase from glutamate glutamate in serum;
- on glutamate transaminase in serum;
- on alkaline phosphatase;
- on cholesterol;
- high and low density lipoprotein;
- on antioxidant potential and histopathological changes.
Results were obtained indicating that both the first and the second dose of amaranth green leaf extract can significantly reduce glucose levels, as well as significantly reduce oxidative damage associated with hyperglycemia.
In addition, it was found that such an extract significantly improved blood biochemical parameters, which are directly related to the occurrence and development of diabetes.
Summing up, it should be noted that the results of the research indicate that the extract from the green leaves of amaranth is suitable for use as a natural preparation for diabetes mellitus. And confirms the validity of the use of amaranth traditional medicine, as an anti-diabetic additive.
Rare plants and edible flowers for the treatment of various diseases
In one of the neighboring countries in the center engaged in vegetable growing, scientists “broke” the garden of the future. It grew unusual plants, flowers that can become a real panacea for humanity.
In particular, the unique vegetable variety of chrysanthemums, derived from the Japanese variety, deserves mention. It helps fight antioxidants. And there are a lot of useful substances in it – potassium, ascorbic acid, various minerals.
However, the real pride of scientists involved in the garden of the future is the red leaf amaranth. Scientists associate this variety of amaranth with a healthy diet, and also believe that it can be good for health.
Therefore, the results obtained in the future will be complemented by new research. In addition, scientists from Italy have recently become interested in the green amaranth.
As noted in the message, in Italy it is planned to launch a state program that helps people suffering from allergies or gluten intolerance. Amaranth is also good because in addition to its high nutritional properties, it is characterized by the complete absence of gluten.
But the use of amaranth flour will allow such people to eat without any restrictions any pastries and, especially, traditional pizza for Italians.
As you can see, from all regions of the planet continue to come scientifically based evidence that amaranth really is a valuable plant, different nutritional and healing properties.
