AMARANTH IN ANIMALS: FOOD AND PREVENTION OF DISEASES

Автор - | 02.03.2019

One can argue about which animal feed is the most high-calorie. But today, it’s not just about the number of calories, but also about how quickly such food is absorbed, as well as its ability to help the body increase its resistance to diseases. The choice of feed also affects the productivity of animals, the quality of their products. Amaranth leads here in all directions.

What qualities of amaranth are valuable for animals?

It has been proved by practice that using products of processing of amaranth and adhering to balanced formulations, it is possible to prepare complete feed, and from them will be obtained the maximum economic efficiency. The high nutritional value of this plant (its green mass, grain, oilcake) is known, and at the same time the feed with such additives is enriched with a large number of useful substances, some of which are peculiar only to it.

The composition of products of amaranth processing is distinguished by the following substances:

  • vitamins tocotrienol, rutin, thiamine, pyridoxine, choline, riboflavin, ascorbic, pantothenic, folic acid, and a number of others;
  • Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids – linolenic, linoleic;
  • essential amino acids lysine, tryptophan, leucine, isoleucine, threonine, valine, methionine, phenylalanine;
  • trace elements copper, iron, potassium, magnesium, calcium, selenium, zinc, manganese, phosphorus, sodium;
  • organic compound squalene, which is more here than in any other sources of plant and animal origin, and squalene nourishes the tissues with oxygen, increases disease resistance, improves reproductive functions, the quality of fur.

Regarding Omega-6, these acids have the ability to integrate into all systems of the body, and their value is also in the fact that such a unique composition is repeated only in salmon oil.

In addition, amaranth contains a sufficient amount of almost perfect protein, the degree of assimilation of which is 92% (mother’s breast milk is absorbed by 85%). The research also proved that the amaranth protein can be incorporated into the genetic code and eliminate the violations. The value of amaranth as a protein source is recognized by many veterinarians. So, Dmitriy Domashenko, a veterinarian with 14 years of experience, during the seminar “Growing and processing amaranth”, which was held on the basis of Kharkov Agrarian University, noted that from one hectare of amaranth it is possible to collect up to 250 tons, and if you consider that this culture to 16% protein, it is more than 32 tons of protein. This result does not give any other culture.

Indeed, amaranth among traditional cereals is the most balanced in amino acid composition. Therefore, it is considered the most valuable plant ingredient feed for domestic, fur and breeding animals, are actively used in the production of feed and feed additives. As practice shows, food with amaranth not only boosts immunity, satisfies animal nutritional needs, but also contributes to better assimilation of other ingredients due to high lysine content. It also has anti-inflammatory, regenerative, antiviral, antiparasitic properties, effectively removes toxins from the body.

Amaranth food and performance

Practice has shown the positive effect of feed with amaranth on the health and productivity of animals. So, if you feed the green mass, where there will be up to 25% amaranth, the piglets grow 2.5 times faster, and rabbits, nutria and chickens – by 2-3 times, cows and goats significantly increase milk yield and milk fat. When feeding green mass of amaranth with a small amount of grain to pigs, it is noticed that animals grow faster, gaining up to 60 kg of live weight in 4 months.

As Dmitry Domashenko said, relying on his veterinarian experience and the practice of veterinarians, the optimal amount of amaranth flour is 2 kg per goat, 5–6 kg per cow depending on body weight. In this case, the cost of one liter of milk will be 6 UAH 42 kopecks. In addition, when feeding with amaranth, according to observations, by veterinarians, the dry residue of milk increases, and as a result it is possible to get more cheese and butter. So, if before feeding with amaranth, 1 kg of cheese was obtained by processing 9 liters of milk, then after – from 6-7, and therefore the area of processing in this regard is very profitable.

When feeding pigs up to 30% of the dry matter volume, amaranth flour can be added. This will solve the existing health problems and prevent possible. After all, it is known that most concentrated feeds do not give the animal as much fiber as amaranth gives. Lack of fiber leads to constipation, stagnation in the urogenital system, obesity, and one of the consequences is the low reproducibility of animals. Cellulose, which contain other plants, compared with amaranth, dissolves more slowly.

When feeding broilers, it is recommended that 8% amaranth grass meal be introduced into the compound feed. For laying hens, this percentage can be increased to 12. As a result, the health of the bird is strengthened, its productivity increases, and product quality improves.

Interestingly, when using amaranth as a source of natural carotene, the chicken acquires a yellowish tint in literally 2 weeks of fattening. For this, it is enough to add 8% grass meal to the usual feed. By the way, when using herbal flour, 5 kg of this supplement when swelling equals 40 kg of green mass.

Amaranth-based products not only for nutrition

Specialists at the Kharkov Agrarian University have developed a unique product based on amaranth oil. This is Amasan. The drug is intended for the treatment of livestock buildings.

However, it should be noted here that it comes in two versions. One form of the drug is developed directly for disinfection of premises. The second can be introduced directly into the feed as a disinfector and stabilizer. Such a drug can be considered unique, because before it there was not a single disinfectant that can be eaten, without causing harm to health, and even bringing him benefit. In this case, the use of antibiotics is becoming redundant. The same applies to other chemicals and drugs.

The basis of Amasana are dolomite limestone rocks. Auxiliary components of the steel microelements and amaranth oil. The active ingredient is silver ions, which are known to have bactericidal, antiviral, pronounced antifungal and antiseptic action. Therefore, the preparation with silver ions is a highly effective disinfectant against pathogenic microorganisms that cause acute infections.

In general, the composition is selected so that the drug, entering the body, destroys pathogenic and conditionally pathogenic flora, and at the same time does not damage the beneficial flora. In addition, during infection, the use of the drug is not addictive, and no bacteria or virus form resistant forms in relation to it.

Amaranth cake instead of medicine?

Regular introduction of amaranth oil into animal feed gives results that can not fail to please animal breeders. Thus, according to the observations of Dmitriy Domashenko, animals and poultry receiving feed with amaranth supplements become calmer, gain weight more evenly, and the amaranth cake itself works as an anti-stress agent.

Within six months of such feeding, it is possible to reach a non-failing technology, which could not be achieved with another cake. In addition, using amaranth oil cake in the composition of the feed, you can successfully do without acidulants, flavors, growth promoters.

As experts have calculated, the cost of growing one chicken with almost 100 percent safety is about 100 UAH per kilogram. This includes the cost of chicken, fodder, electricity, and in the winter time – the cost of heating. The selling price of chicken is more than 200 UAH. Thus, the farmer can make a 100 percent profit.
