AS A BETTER TO CARRY OUT AMARANTA’S CROPS, WE CONSIDER THE EXPERIENCE OF PLANTS

Автор - | 26.05.2019

There is a statement that amaranth is an unpretentious plant that can survive and produce a crop in any conditions. Experienced breeders agree with this partially: in their opinion, it is necessary to make some efforts to get a high yield of this crop. One of the important stages is the care of crops, although it also requires preparation.

About some biological features of amaranth
The amaranth family belongs to annual plants. This culture tolerates summer drought, but grows and develops better with good moisture supply. Amaranth shoots (pink or light green) are very small, and they have a high need for warmth. During the first three to four weeks they grow slowly, and at this time there is a risk of losing them due to diseases, invasion of pests, as a result of the influence of bad weather conditions. Then the growth rate of amaranth seedlings reaches 4-7 centimeters per day, especially at elevated air temperatures (20 ° C or more).

Unlike many annual crops, during a drought period, when the growth stops completely, amaranth is quickly restored. The length of the growing season depends on the temperature conditions. In general, this culture is resistant to pests and diseases.

Despite the fact that amaranth is considered unpretentious, it grows best on sandy and loamy soils. Soils do not suit him:

  • excessively moisturized;
  • swimming clay and loamy;
  • unstructured sandy.

In addition, this culture belongs to the light-loving, therefore, does not tolerate shading, and this is especially important in the initial period of its growth. In subsequent phases of development, amaranth also needs good illumination. To get a full-fledged seed material, it is important to observe the temperature regime: the sum of active temperatures should be in the range of 2100-2500 ° С.

Places with amaranth should be placed in farm fodder crop rotations. It will grow well, regardless of its predecessor, it is only important to observe the main condition: the predecessor must be removed early, because time is required for good soil preparation. However, as experience shows, the best precursors are annual grass mixtures, perennial legumes and legume-cereal grasses, as well as tilled crops and early-grain varieties.

Amaranth responds well to fertilizers: it intensively uses readily available nutrients and is characterized by a high level of their consumption. Therefore, to ensure the desired yield, it is recommended to apply fertilizers in the fall: at least 50–60 tons of peat compost (for plowing), 60–80 kilograms of phosphorous and 120–140 kilograms of potash fertilizers (for cultivation) per hectare. True, if the soil of the plot under amaranth is well supplied with humus, and under the predecessor organic matter was applied, then its introduction is not necessary. We fill up with nitrogen in the spring under cultivation at 80-90 kilograms per hectare. It should be borne in mind that in the seed areas portions of mineral fertilizers should be reduced by half compared with the full dose, especially nitrogen. This inhibits plant growth in height, shortens the growing season, but accelerates seed ripening.

Why do you need care for an unpretentious plant
As you know, a person who is engaged in the cultivation of any crop, aims to make a profit, and it is desirable that it be tangible. Indeed, in this case, it becomes possible to acquire new equipment without external support, introduce modern technology, and improve the quality and quantity of the products produced.

Today, the development of new non-traditional highly profitable crops cultivation technologies, among which is amaranth, is becoming increasingly important. This for the farmer was actually the only way not only to survive and develop in the modern economy, but also to increase the fertility of their lands. In our case, the new technology is easy to learn and is based on the technique that is widespread in farms.

It has become profitable to cultivate amaranth for green fodder, for silage, grain, or as a vegetable plant, because with this culture many tasks can be solved. In addition, the amaranth agricultural technician is fairly unified, and the differences depending on the purpose relate mainly to cleaning.

What we pay attention when caring for amaranth

The preference of amaranth when choosing a culture for growing is often given because of its simplicity. However, plant growers who have been cultivating this crop for the first year are advised to take care of the destruction of the soil crust, which can form on loamy soils and hinder the development of shoots. Therefore, on the 4-6th day after sowing, it is better to process the area with amaranth crops with ring-spur rollers. To protect crops from weeds, it is recommended to loosen the spacing between rows, and this stage is important not to miss in the first three to four weeks. One month after the emergence of shoots, thinning is carried out.

Thinning is recommended twice.

In the presence of 1-2 true leaves.
2 weeks after the first thinning.

The distance between the rows in the first case should be 3–5 cm, in the second – 25–30 centimeters. If amaranth is grown for green mass, then 10-12 plants are left per thinner for thinning, and for grain, it is left 70 cm between rows, leaving 4-5 plants per linear meter. Simultaneously with thinning, loosening and weeding is done. Such works are performed until the plants root well and quickly grow, which becomes noticeable, as a rule, after the second thinning: at this time the amaranth adds 6–7 cm daily.

Amaranth, like any plant, grows and develops better, getting the right feeding. Here it is recommended to give preference to organic matter, and, according to experienced plant growers, it is sufficient to apply a mullein infusion once a week (the ratio should be maintained at 1:10). For feeding you can make a solution of wood ash (2 cups per 10 liters). The first dressing is carried out even during planting, then immediately after the first thinning, and then every 10-12 days until the plant grows stronger. Fertilizers are applied simultaneously with irrigation, or before precipitation.

Care should be taken to protect plants from diseases and pests. Amaranth can suffer from the attack of beet and cruciferous flea beetles, beet leaf and bean aphids, weevils, as well as root rot or diseases of the leaf apparatus. For the protection of plants, biopreparations are best suited, of which there are only 9 intended for organic farming, and among them is the universal preparation Pentafag-SM produced by the Ukrainian company BioTsentr. This drug works against bacterial diseases and pests, helps protect plants from the full range of diseases and pests. The first feeding, according to experts, should be carried out on the shoots, because the early sowing is particularly susceptible to disease. Here it can be noted that the cost of purchasing drugs for the protection and fertilizing of amaranth, according to preliminary estimates, is 3-4% of the total volume of sales.
