Insomniac, according to medical statistics, every fourth resident of a city with a population of 50,000 people and every eighth resident of a settlement in which more than 5,000 people live from time to time suffers.
Sleep problems come in different types. Persistent insomnia is referred to as a disorder that requires long and thoughtful treatment. This condition is fraught with diseases of the central nervous system, which lead to a decline in mental activity and disability.
Here you can give an example described by the American neuropsychologist and popularizer of science Oliver Sachs. One of the patients, which was observed by the doctor, suffered from constant and unreasonable insomnia. Three years later, just as unreasonably (at first glance) and unexpectedly, she had an almost complete extinction of mental activity, which we know as insanity. Later it was discovered that insomnia was one of the symptoms of atrophy of the cerebral cortex, which became the direct cause of marasmus.
More often than not, the inability to fall asleep torments people not constantly. For example, with periodic insomnia, a person cannot fall asleep for several days in a row. This condition is also called “cyclical insomnia.” More precisely, cyclical insomnia may disappear after a week and no longer appear, and periodic tends to recur after some periods of time. These cases are characterized by the presence of a specific external stimulus, which affects either the physical condition of the person, or the mental one.
Finally, there are separate episodes of insomnia, which can also be indicated one-time, and can occur regularly.
Treatment for insomnia with amaranth in history
Healing herbs have long been considered an effective medicine for disorders of the nervous system. Of the majority of neurophysiological and neuropsychological diseases known now, in the old days, of course, they did not know. And it is natural that in the annals of healers who were able to treat disorders of the nervous system, the main number of prescriptions is devoted specifically to insomnia.
The first information about the use of amaranth as a medicine for insomnia is dated neither by 7I century nor by. By the beginning of this century, one of the first sets of laws, drafted under Yaroslav the Wise, dates back. It is there that the “healers who cure sleep” (the immortal) amaranth is mentioned.
The secrets of treatment were inherited in the families of the healers, so it is not surprising that mentions periodically appear in later documents. For example, several centuries in a row recorded the so-called “Izbornik”, which mentioned among other things about the treatment of various diseases, including insomnia, which was treated with “high plant”, according to further description resembling amaranth. The mention of this refers to the XIII century.
And the most well-known of the surviving chronicles, in which amaranth is mentioned as a means of insomnia, is the Sixth Day by John of Bulgaria, in which the human anatomy and the diseases of the brain are described in some detail in the 18th century.
It is interesting that in the same “Shestodneve” it is indicated that the heart rate is also “healed by this plant,” that is, amaranth.
Amaranth for sleep disorders today
In the modern world, the positive effect of amaranth for insomnia has been repeatedly confirmed. Along with lavender, hop and melissa, this is one of the most effective means for quickly falling asleep. To understand how amaranth helps with insomnia, you need a little to understand its causes.
The only case when herbs for insomnia are powerless is the presence of a serious disease that provokes sleep disturbance. These can be heart diseases, pathological changes in the central nervous system, and, rarely, severe diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver. Amaranth, like other medicinal herbs, can alleviate the symptoms, supplement the complex of medicines, but the main treatment should be made with drugs under the supervision of an appropriate doctor.
If insomnia is caused by diseases of the heart or the gastrointestinal tract, check with your doctor if medicinal herbs can be used, in particular, amaranth. Amaranth infusions and decoctions can positively affect some types of gastrointestinal diseases and heart defects.
Causes of Insomnia
The causes of periodic, cyclical and episodic insomnia are similar. The only difference is in the quantity and quality of the directly annoying factor. In other words, the long-term effect of a particular cause leads to more complex forms of insomnia, and the short-term, respectively, entails one-off cases.
The most common causes of insomnia are:
- psycho-physiological fatigue due to excessive physical exertion;
- mental fatigue due to a strong intellectual load;
- psycho-emotional stress;
- sleep disturbance;
- binge eating;
- lack of oxygen in the blood.
Surely everyone has come across all of these conditions at least once. For example, psychophysiological fatigue due to excessive physical exertion is the very thing when “everything is sushhestvovanie-svjazi-mezhdu-bessonnicej-i-povyshennym-arterialnym-davleniem-maloverojatno-1bolit, my legs ache, my head is broken, but I cannot fall asleep”.
Mental fatigue due to a strong intellectual load is characterized by a large number of thoughts that do not calm down in the head, and the practical result of such reflections usually tends to zero. Such insomnia is often described by saying that “I could not fall asleep because there was a mess in my head.”
Insomnia due to psycho-emotional stress appears to be similar only if, when insomnia is due to mental fatigue, the efficiency is extremely low, then stress, on the contrary, provokes the production of adrenaline and norepinephrine, as a result of which the brain generates many ideas. In the morning they are mostly forgotten, which is sometimes insulting. Psychologists even recommend, if they really can’t sleep at all, to write down these ideas. Some of them may seem reasonable afterward.
Disruption of sleep causes one of the most unpleasant types of insomnia. Usually, in this case, you don’t want to sleep, and you don’t want to do anything, and you don’t really have any thoughts – only general apathy and a desire to sleep, which is not realized.
Overeating prevents a person from falling asleep due to overloading the organs of the gastrointestinal tract. And the lack of oxygen in the blood is usually caused by the fact that the person moved a little. It was not for nothing that at one time the so-called “evening exercise” was spread – so that you could sleep better.
Use of amaranth for insomnia
Amaranth is able to help with all the listed conditions, except the fourth and last. The lack of oxygen is “treated” only with oxygen, so in this case you will have to make a habit of moving more in the fresh air. Or take sleeping pills. But the first option seems to be more appropriate, since it is much more useful for the body. In case of violation of the regime, if you need to sleep all the same, only sleeping pills will help. But it is better, if there is such an opportunity, to try to restore the mode as soon as possible, or at least install a new one.
For psychophysiological fatigue and for recovery from stress, amaranth baths are considered the most effective means.
How to make bath with amaranth
The bath is about half full. Then boil 2 liters of water in a saucepan, pour 300-400 g of crushed amaranth into boiling water and you can forget about it for 15 minutes. After they expire, turn off the fire, and leave the container with the decoction on the stove for about 10 minutes. Then it pours into the bath.
If you prefer a bath in which you can plunge to the neck, you will need about 3 liters of water and about 600 g of amaranth.
How to take a bath with amaranth
With periodic, cyclical insomnia, the bath is desirable to take 2-3 times a week. When wfhytm5ot episodic enough 1-2 times (when insomnia happened and a day or two after it).
It is necessary to lie in the bath for at least half an hour, completely relaxing. Psychologists recommend to present at the same time how the remedy used in treatment grows in nature. That is, you need to visualize a picture of amaranth growing in calming conditions, under the sun or wind, and realize that this particular plant at the moment relaxes muscles, accelerates blood, heals the body.
Important! Water in the bathroom should not be made very hot, but it should be a little hotter than the one in which you used to, for example, take a shower. In the first minutes of the temperature, slight discomfort should be felt, but then the skin becomes accustomed, the vessels widen greatly and the body relaxes.
But be careful: people with diseases of the cardiovascular system, such baths are often contraindicated.
If insomnia is a consequence of psycho-emotional stress, after the bath it is indicated to drink an infusion or decoction of a medicinal plant. Here is suitable as amaranth, and lemon balm or mint. The drink should not be either hot or cool, but just warm. Enough 1 cup.
Other methods of treating insomnia amaranth
Intellectual fatigue is treated with both relaxation and sedation. Therefore, baths and amaranth tea or decoction will help here. The emphasis should be on drinks, because they like relax the body from the inside, and the bath completes the effect.
When overeating, it is necessary to normalize the work of the gastrointestinal tract and “soothe” overloaded internal organs, for which an amaranth infusion is suitable. Gum disease. ” It should not be consumed in large quantities, since more than 300 ml of infusion at a time will require active work of the kidneys and the urinary system as a whole, and the goal in this case is the opposite.
Note! When overeating can not take hot, relaxing baths. On the contrary, in this case, motor activity is shown, and the temperature of the surrounding space should, if possible, be no more than 23 degrees.
Consumption of approximately 200 ml of amaranth tea or infusion about half an hour or an hour before bedtime is indicated for tedious, nervous work, even if there are no problems with falling asleep. People who often and often interact with other people are forced to constantly switch their attention from one object to another, it is useful to drink a cooled or weakly warm infusion of healing herbs during the day.
Amaranth, as well as, for example, lemon balm, is a good prophylactic and prevents nervous system disorders, the risk of which, unfortunately, is quite high in the conditions of modern life, especially among people working in large groups.
